The Lightsaber was copied from Lucasfilm archival materials and is a direct study of an original post production prop. In Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Luke’s lightsaber prop was created from an antique flashgun. Seven T-shaped grips were added to the lower circumference and a 1970’s calculator display component topped off the “control box.” A simple picture hanger D-ring riveted to the bottom allowed the weapon to be worn on a belt loop. So was born the iconic Skywalker lightsaber. As is usual on movies, several versions of this prop were built. The Elite Edition version of this weapon is as seen in post-production publicity photographs featuring the “control box” mounted opposite to how it appeared in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
